The word “Robot” first appeared in the year 1920 and was used in Russia and comes from the word “robota”. Then the term robots mostly meant something that could work for you, in some ways the meaning is similar but what we understand as robots today has also changed in many ways.
Today we use the term “Robotics” to describe what is happening with robots and artificial intelligence, but also for any kind of automated machines that work through algorithms.
The history of robotics changed in many ways since it started – Today there are more than a thousand universities around the world that offer robotics courses. It changed how we think about technology and science overall because now we understand much better how machines work and all kinds of technologies can be used in an intelligent way if they follow some rules or guidelines which make them seem like having their own minds.
Some of the ways we teach Robotics to younger students is through robot gadgets that can be programmed like Sphero BOLT and LEGO Boost and WeDo for younger students. Students get the familiarity and tactile feedback while they lear about robotics and coding.
